Two days ago as I was leaving the gym after fasted cardio, I remembered I had a handful of cash floating around in my purse. I decided whoever was on the corner I would give the money to. I pulled up and there was a woman writing on her sign. I said good morning and told her that God put it in my heart to give whoever was on the corner this money ($9). She was so sweet and we started to talk. She's struggling with addiction and I, having worked at a drug/alcohol rehab, felt compelled to talk to her and try to give her some hope. The light turned green so I said I would try to come back and said goodbye. This morning I grabbed a 12pack of Hint water I've had sitting in my apt and tossed it in my car. After cardio I drove passed the same corner and she was there again today. I gave her the Hint water and told her I would be back after church.
Sure enough I walked down to the bridge on 290/71 at the time I said I would. I found a group of people sitting there, some talking nonsense and others just being polite. I sat and talked with Rhonda. Her story is heart breaking. We talked about ways she can try to get help and I briefly shared my past with her. I told her I wanted to take her to the store to get whatever she needs/wants. Mind you I don't roll around in money. I'm in SAVE mode right now but God put it on my heart to serve and give. She was reluctant and so polite. She said she didn't need anything but would let me buy her a salad. So we walked to Randall's and I got a big cart. I asked if the others would want sandwiches and she said they would eat them. We walked down the aisles and I kept asking her if she wanted this or that. You would think someone would go nuts but she was so respectful to me, telling me she didn't want to spend my money. I told her not to worry about it. We got her some notebooks and pens to write stuff down and I threw 4 bottles of Off in the cart. We got a case of water, a huge tub-o-snacks, Gatorade powder, boxes of Cliff bars, protein ensure shakes and some other stuff. We carried it all back and unloaded everything for everyone. Again, these people were polite, grateful and pleasant. Continued in the comments:
